Where to Look When November 30, 2008

I like to collect Christian book marks and wallet sized cards with great sayings or helpful resources. I thought I would share one of those this evening. This particular book mark is one with scripture references on where to look for certian happenings in ones life. I’m taking the scripture readings out of the NKJV. Some scriptures are too long to print here. They are still very good resources to read.

Where to Look When:

You are weary; read Psalm 95:1-7

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before His prescence with thanksgiving. Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.

For the Lord is the great God, and the great King above all gods.

In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His also.

The sea is His, for He made it; and His hands formed the dry land.

Oh come, let us worship and bown down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For He is our God, And we are His people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand.

You Seem too Busy: Ecclesiastes 3:1-15

To everyone there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;

A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up;

A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, And a time to refrain form embracing;

A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away;

A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak;

A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war, And a time of peace.

What profit has the worker from that in which he labors?

I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

I know that nthign is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives,

and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor–it is the gift of God.

I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken from it. god does it, that men should fear before Him.

That which is has already been, and what is to be has alredy been; and God requires an account of what is past.

You Can’t Sleep: Psalm 4, 56, 130

4
Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

How long, O you sons of men, will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness and seek falsehood? Selah

But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly; the Lord will hear twhen I call to Him.

Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within yhour heart on your bed, and be still. Selah

Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.

There are many who say, “Who will show us any good?” Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.

You have put gladness in my heart, morethatn in the season that theri grain and wine increased.

I will both lie down in peace, and sleep for You alone, O Lord, make me swell in safety.

56
Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; fighting all day he oppresses me.

My enemies would hound me all day, for there are many who fight aginst me, O Most High.

Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

In God (I will prasie His word), in God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?

All day they twist my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.

They gather together, they hide, they mark my steps, when they lie in wait for my life.

Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the pebbles, O God!

You number my wanderings; put my tears into Your bottle; are tehy not in Your book?

When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; this I know, because God is for me.

In God (I will praise His word), In the Lord (I will praise His word),

In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do tto me?

Vows made to you are finding upon me, O God; I will render praises to you,

For You have delivered my sould from death. Have you not kept my feet from falling, That I may walk before God in the light of the living?

130
Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord;

Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?

But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.

I wait for the Lord, my sould waits, and in His word I do hope.

My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning–Yes, moe than those who watch the morning.

O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is mercy, and with Him is abundant redemption.

And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

When You are Tempted: James 1
I’ll leave you to go read this one on your own since it is a longer scripture.

When Friends Disappoint You: 1 Corinthians 13
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowldedge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but havenot love, I am nothing.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I love, it profits me nothing.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;

does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;

does not reject in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;

bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it iwll vanish away.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part.

But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child. I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part but then I shall know just as I also am known.

And now abide faith, hope, loe, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Our Pastor’s son spoke of the unfailing love of the Lord last night. It was an awesome message. You can go here to listen and/or watch the message.

When Business is Poor: Ecclesiastes 5
This one is a longer scripture. I’ll leave it to you to go read it.

When Nothing is Going Right: II Timothy 3
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:

For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,

traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away be various lusts,

always learnign and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith;

but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.

But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance,

persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra–what
persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,

and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

that theman of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

When You Bear a Grudge: Ephesians 4
This one is also a longer scripture which you will have to look up also.

Thought for the Day November 26, 2008

Thought for the day: We can always do more than we “think” we can.
                               So think less and imagine more.
Webshots.com

This was taken from a screen saver at

This is a lesson I’ve been given by our heavenly Father. There was a day He placed on my heart to perform a certain task. I thought there is no way I can accomplish this in that short of time. He told me to trust Him. So I did, and wow! Needless to say the task was completed and paid off. If we listen and follow the Lord, we can do more than we “think” we can. :)

Crosswalk.com’s live it has another great article. It is about Thanksgiving and the true meaning and who we really should be thanking. Here is an insert from the article. Go here to read the message.

For years, many public schools have left God out of Thanksgiving, teaching instead that the Pilgrims gave a party to thank the Native Americans or Mother Earth. Even more current are claims that the first Thanksgiving was a copy of European harvest festivals or a stolen Native American custom, or just a repeat of thanksgivings by other explorers.

Hank Hanegraaff November 24, 2008

I’m excited. Hank Hanegraaff is doing a Christmas Letter. Here is what he has to say about it:

Each year during Christmas, I communicate the truth concerning Christ’s coming in flesh. This year I want to do something different. I want to take the truths of Christmas and turn them into a Christmas tradition. As such, the purpose of The Heart of Christmas: A Twenty-five Day Devotional is to ensure that just as you prepare your home for Christmas, you will likewise prepare your heart.
As the culture begins promoting Christmas shopping in stores the day after Thanksgiving, Christ can begin preparing your heart for the celebration of His birth starting December 1st and climaxing Christmas Day. Each devotional is complemented by a related passage of Scripture, a special Christmas carol, and thought-provoking questions.
It is my hope and prayer that this year you will use The Heart of Christmas to begin a Christmas tradition that carries on through your children’s children.
To make the journey memorable, I’ve organized this twenty-five day odyssey around the acronym C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S.

The Christmas Shoes November 24, 2008

I finally watched the whole movie, “The Christmas Shoes.” If you have not viewed this movie yet, I hightly suggest you do. View it with an open mind, not just as another sappy movie. It is far more than that. I has so much family importance values in it.

Are you one of those that pours yourself into your work? That has little to no time with your family? Has missed many of your childrens programs? Well then this movie is definitely for you. All too often we put money and material things first. We want the nicest looking house, dress a certian way, keep up with the Jones’, drive nice vehicles, etc.

This isn’t what life is about. In fact, the Lord does not want this for us either. The movie was well designed to get the point across loud and clear. If you are a sentimental person, have a box of Kleenex next to you. This movies hits home.

God Bless, enjoy life, make the best of it, and live like the current day is your last one.

Movies November 23, 2008

The following are a couple of movies I’ve recently seen. One is: “The Case for Faith” by Lee Strobel. What an amazing story that was put together by many. The testimonies really pull at the heart strings. Fascinating to say the least.

The other is “Christmas Shoes.” I’ve only seen half of it, as I just bought it and was watching it with two of my grand daughters tonight when they asked to turn it off so they could go to sleep. It was so good that the poor babies had to ask three times before I finally gave in. I wanted to watch it all! But from what I’ve seen it is a very, very good movie. Definitely one that pulls at the heart strings. It just has so much meaning to it.

It is a movie that is very befitting in this day and age with the fast paced life that so many live and never take the time to realize the finer things in life. For those who never “create memories.”

Another thought. If you get a chance to listen Lee Strobel talk about “If God Lived in my House” listen to it. What an impact it has.

Well that’s all Folks…
For now that is. ;)

Innocence November 21, 2008

This was just too cute not to share.

Two young boys walked into a pharmacy one day, picked

out a box of tampons and proceeded to the checkout

counter.

The man at the counter asked the older boy, “Son, how

old are you?”

Eight,” the boy replied.

The man continued, Do you know what these are used

for?”

The boy replied, “Not exactly, but they aren’t for me.

They’re for him. He’s my brother. He’s four. We saw on TV

that if you use these you Would be able to swim and ride a

bike. Right now, he can’t do either one.”

Ahhh the innocence of babes. All too often, we see something and can totally misinterpret the message. For children it is even more apt to happen with them. That’s why I believe it is very important for parents to be very active in their children’s lives. Know what they are doing. Definitely control what they watch on TV. There is so much adult information now that it is hard for children to differentiate at times. The internet is another place to watch carefully if you allow your child to utilize it. I’ve seen and heard some scary stuff.

We need to remember, kids are like little sponges. They try to absorb as much as they can; as quickly as they can. Their desire to learn all is vital to them. When they do not have a mentor there to explain to them what something is, or that something just isn’t what they need, etc. their curiosity strengthens and that is when things can go haywire.

It’s like the song–and darn it, I’m brain farthing again–I know, nothing new there–but some of the words are:

     “Oh be careful little eyes what you see; oh be careful little ears

      what you hear. For the Father’s up above, and He’s looking down

      in love, so be careful little eyes what you see.”.

Oh, and just for the record; I’m one of those people that puts songs I’ve heard with life happenings or something being spoken. ;0) I drive my hubby up a wall sometimes. Hee hee. Granted the piece above is a joke, but you know, I can see this sort of thing happening

God knows your purpose.

Do you?

“For I know the plans I have for you,”

declares the Lord…

“plans to give you hope and a future.”

                Jeremiah 29:11
